Eelectrocardiogram

An electrocardiogram is a test that checks for problems with the electrical activity of your heart. The heart is a muscular pump made up of four chambers. A natural electrical system causes the heart to contract pumping blood through the lungs and the rest of the body.

Performing an electrocardiogram is possible to:

• find the cause of symptoms of heart disease, including shortness of breath, dizziness, fainting and palpitations

• find out if the walls of the heart chambers are too thick

• check how well medicines are working and see if they are causing side effects that affect the heart

• check the health of the heart when other diseases or conditions are present (including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, cigarette smoking, diabetes and family history of heart disease).

During the test the patient lies in a bed and several electrodes are attached to the skin on each arm and leg and on the chest. The electrodes are used to transfer your heart’s electrical activity to the tracing on paper. No electricity passes through your body from the machine and there is no danger of electrical shock.

A general professional manages several types of illness that present in an undifferentiated way at an early stage of development, which may require urgent intervention. The approach of general practice aims to tfocus onto the biological, psychological and social factors relevant to the care of each patient's illness. Their duties are not confined to specific organs of the body, and they have particular skills in treating people with multiple health issues. They are trained to treat patients of any age and sex to levels of complexity that vary between countries.

A general professional task consist of:

• Care of chronic health problems

• Health education

• Treatment of acute non-life-threatening diseases

• Early detection and referral to specialized care of patients with serious diseases

• Preventative care including health education and immunization

• Pre-hospital emergency care

• Performing low-complexity surgical procedures

Ultrasound

Ultrasound imaging is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treats medical conditions. It is safe and painless, and produces pictures of the inside of the body using sound waves. High-frequency sound waves are transmitted from a probe through the gel into the body.

The transducer collects the sounds that bounce back and a computer then uses those sound waves to create an image. Ultrasound examinations do not use ionizing radiation (as they are in x-rays), thus there is no radiation exposure to the patient. Because ultrasound images are captured in real-time, they can show the structure and movement of the internal organs of the body, as well as blood flowing through blood vessels. Doppler ultrasound is a special technique that allows the physician to see and evaluate blood flow through arteries and veins in the abdomen, arms, legs, neck and/or brain (in infants and children) or within various body organs such as the liver or kidneys.

You will be instructed about the preparation for the exam, including whether you should refrain from eating or drinking beforehand, and correct procedures as leaving jewelry at home and wearing loose and comfortable clothing.

Telemedicine

In the field of clinical diagnostics, it is possible for a doctor to make a diagnosis on a patient who is not physically in the same place, through the remote transmission of data produced by the diagnostic tools. This is possible thanks to a set of medical and computer devices called Telemedicine.

Of the most common applications in the field of telemedicine is providing an opinion by a second remote Doctor who analyzes the sent data and referts them, producing in fact a second clinical assessment of the patient.e.
